Wing Chun Workshop - 03.02.2002

Siu Lim Tao form and its applications

On the 3rd February 2002, Lucas Castrounis held a Wing Chun workshop in Reading. The focus of the seminar was the first form (Siu Lim Tao) and its applications. Attended by over 60 people, it was a great success. Lucas would like to thank all his students for helping at the seminar, and especially like to thank the Reading Academy senior students, Ormond Arnold, Nick Ratcliffe and Mark Fuller.

Many thanks to the guys from the Basement, and to Eddie Yuen with his school, Oxford Wing Chun Kuen. And finally a big thank you to everyone who attended.

Our apologies for not being able to include all the comments collected at the end of the seminar. To summarize, it was felt everyone enjoyed the workshop, with many people commenting on the excellent interaction with the more advanced students, benefiting from the good advice they received.

Very interesting seminar, the more advanced students give good advice and the whole thing was a great experience. Cheers

Good explanations & very informative also very enjoyable. I have enjoyed it very much - a good mix of people.

Ian Paterson

Very good fun & relaxing atmosphere & I was quite surprise how much more I took in.

Nick Ritcliffe

Really great seminar, nice to have people from all levels. Great workshop & looking forward to your next one.

Ormond Arnold

Thank you for the seminar. I'm a bit lost for words, it was quite overwhelming. Because of the way I'm used to being split groups into beginners, intermediates and advanced, I am not used to having much more experienced people to learn from. I learned more, but felt much more self-conscious. Most of what I had learned before was a hindrance. Depressing to have to unlearn so many mistakes before I can even start. Sometimes I couldn't decide if I was enjoying myself or about to burst into tears of frustration. Probably both at the same time. You said in an article that "Wing Chun is about Logic not Mysticism", but, you know, the way you teach seems very mystical to me. The playfulness, the joy in every movement, the beauty of the efficiency of it... this is what I understand mysticism to be - nothing to do with secrets! Anyway, it doesn't matter, I just like the way you teach. May I train at the Reading Academy? I promise I will do my best to forget anything I thought I knew about Wing Chun!

Found the seminar to be very good, it was interesting to see how my body reacted to people that had no wing chun background. They also must of enjoyed it because everybody was trying their best. The atmosphere was very relaxed & feeling different hands was like a wake-up call. It was great to see the London Basement Boys attend and hopefully we will see more of them.

Carlo Sabatella

Really good, nice to have the opportunity to train with different people. Thoroughly enjoyable - well worth it!

Lewis Akers

A great experience & opportunity to touch hands with all levels of students. It was amazing how much you can learn from seeing your own mistakes in people with less experience. You managed to get a lot across to everyone, thank you.

David Johnson

From all of the Basement crew and me, Rich, we found the seminar instructive, interesting and well given, with a great atmosphere and learning. With thanks

Rich from the Basement & Homie

Hey Lucas I had a lovely time. Much respect.

Charlie Wilson

Lucas, Congratulations to you for giving a very successful seminar! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It gave the newcomers a good insight into what wing chun is about. For me, a good re-cap of what I have forgotten. Perhaps a little bit too much information for the new guys. But they all got more than they paid for.

Keith Lam

Lucas thank you for a superb seminar. It was nice to go back & train with total beginners & see that I have learned something with my time with you .Great drills & a nice chi-sao finished it perfectly. Cheers
