The Health Benefits of Wing Chun
A positive side effect of practicing Wing Chun Kung Fu is to bring the body's energies into balance.
The energy in all our bodies has a certain tolerance, a little like an elastic band. So if one person has a cold it doesn't automatically follow that a person sharing the room, will get the cold as well. This is because each person is different and the 'elastic' in each person can stretch differently. As long as the energy remains in this tolerance band, or in homeostasis a person will generally be well. But if the tolerance is over stretched the body will be out of balance.
Wing Chun promotes and strengthens the body's capability for healing. The combination of mental and physical movements relieve problems that may result from injury or illness.
Wing Chun can help with:
- Stress
- Poor circulation
- Joint problems
- Constipation
- Fatigue
- Abdominal tension
- High blood pressure
- Back pain
- Muscular tension
- Muscle spasm
- Sciatic pain
- Period pains
- Male & female reproductive disorders
- General health
- Discomfort during pregnancy
- Many other complaints
Physiologist Dr. Kerstin Uvena-Moberg of the top research hospital, Karlinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden along with other scientists have demonstrated that skin-to-skin contact can help lower blood pressure, reduce stress and stimulate the immune system because such sensual activities release the hormone oxytocin. An example of an appropriate activity would be sexual intercourse but it can also be done through the practice of Wing Chun, especially Luc-Sao and Chi Sao (sticky hands) which, in addition, develops the fighting aspects.
Self-defence is only an illusion.

With Wing Chun, and hard training, the self defense aspect comes unnoticeably.
